This guide is for Senior Managers with Canadian work experience who want to understand the new Express Entry category introduced in 2026. It explains who the category is designed for, how it fits within the Express Entry system, and the key eligibility factors you should review before applying.
The Senior managers with Canadian work experience category is part of Canada’s Express Entry category-based selection system. Introduced in 2026, it allows Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to invite senior managers who already have recent Canadian work experience to apply for permanent residence.
The category focuses on senior executives working in key leadership roles in Canada who have gained at least one year of Canadian work experience within the last three years. Eligible occupations include senior managers in construction, transportation, production and utilities; trade, broadcasting and other services; health, education, social and community services and membership organizations; and financial, communications and other business services.
A senior manager is a top executive who plans, directs, and evaluates the overall operations of an organization, typically through middle managers. According to Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC 00015), senior managers in sectors such as construction, transportation, production, and utilities set company objectives, approve policies and programs, allocate financial and human resources, appoint senior staff, and coordinate the work of major departments or regional divisions. They often represent the organization in negotiations or official functions and may work in industries such as manufacturing, mining, transportation, utilities, agriculture, and construction.
Typical job titles include chief executive officer (CEO), chief financial officer (CFO), executive vice-president, operations vice-president, general manager, or company president. These roles usually require a university degree or college diploma related to the business or industry, along with several years of experience in middle management. Senior managers may also specialize in areas such as finance, marketing, operations, or human resources.

The first step to getting invited to apply in a Senior Manager-specific draw is to get into the Express Entry pool.
There are three possible programs you can be eligible for to join the Express Entry pool of candidates:
If you’re eligible for at least one program, you can submit your candidate profile to the Express Entry pool.
To improve your chances, stay updated on Express Entry Candidate Pool trends to assess your competitiveness for the next draws.
After submitting your profile, you will receive a CRS score. This score determines your ranking in the Express Entry pool and is based on factors like age, education, work experience, and language ability.
You can also check your CRS points using our comprehensive Free Express Entry points calculator. The benefit of using our tool is that you get a detailed overview of where you get your points and how your score compares to others in the pool.
All the Senior Manager Occupations draws have a CRS cut-off. Your chances of receiving an invitation to apply depend on your CRS score and the cut-off for the draw.
If your CRS score meets or exceeds the cut-off, you will receive an invitation to apply. If your score is below the cut-off, you will need to work on improving your CRS for future draws.
Once invited, you can submit your permanent residence application. If successful, you’ll be on your way to starting a new chapter in Canada. If not, use the time to enhance your profile and increase your CRS score for the next opportunity.
Yes. Senior managers may be eligible to immigrate to Canada through Express Entry category-based selection streams that target candidates with Canadian work experience in senior management roles. To qualify, candidates typically need skilled work experience in an eligible occupation, meet language requirements, and satisfy the criteria of an immigration program such as the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, or a targeted Express Entry category.
Eligibility depends on several factors, including your National Occupational Classification (NOC) code, years of work experience, education, language ability, and overall Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. If your work experience falls under a senior management occupation and you meet the program requirements, you may be invited to apply for permanent residence through Express Entry.
