Budget Calculator Canada

It’s a helpful Cost of Living Calculator for Canada

Our budget calculator factors in key cost of living data for many of the most popular regions across Canada. This means that it will give you a realistic look into your finances – not just vague numbers with no context.

This is valuable because the cost of living is very different across Canada. Living in major cities tends to be more expensive than smaller cities and rural and regional towns. So, getting a look at the realistic monthly costs for your specific area is important for newcomers.

It’s a Free Budget Calculator for Canada – built specifically for newcomers

Another reason to use the Moving2Canada Budget Calculator – it’s completely free!

We’ve created this tool with the support of our partner, Scotiabank, so you can enjoy it for free. Your data isn’t stored or sold from using this tool either, so there’s no need to worry there.

Finally – a budget calculator that considers family costs!

Moving2Canada’s budget calculator also helps you understand the cost of living for a family in Canada. You input the number of people in your family, and this helpful tool can share key insights about average costs for your family size.

How to Use Moving2Canada’s Budget Calculator Tool?

We’ve designed our free budgeting tool to be as user-friendly and as helpful as possible for newcomers to Canada.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Enter the city in which you plan on living in Canada. You can choose from Canada’s major cities, Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal. There are also options outside of these major cities, too.
  2. Next, you’ll be asked what kind of neighbourhood you’d like to live in. If you’re not sure yet, we have that answer as an option.
  3. This question asks you about how many family members are coming with you. If it’s just you, click one. If it’s you and a partner, then select 2. There are options for families coming with kids as well.
  4. Next, you’ll answer another question on housing – which isn’t surprising since housing is going to be one of your biggest budget items in Canada most likely. Choose whether you want to live in shared housing or get a rental home for yourself and your family.
  5. Lastly, we ask about your plans for buying a car in Canada. Car payments in Canada can also be quite expensive, if you finance it, so it’s another major budgeting consideration.

That’s it! Once you answer those five quick questions, we’ll populate your budget based on local data.

You’ll learn about:

  • Your estimated initial setup costs, covering security deposits, home essentials, and furniture.
  • Your likely ongoing monthly expenses, including utilities, groceries, transportation and more.
  • The city you plan to live in, including provincial income tax rates and other stats.
  • Canada’s income tax rates.
  • How to cut costs as a newcomer to Canada.
