The Prince Edward Island (PEI) Intermediate Experience Stream Pathway is part of PEI’s Workforce Category. This pathway allows employers to attract and retain international talent and offers eligible applicants a pathway to work and eventually gain permanent residency in Canada.

Key Takeaways

  • This pathway allows PEI employers to recruit intermediate-skilled foreign workers.
  • You may be eligible if you have a valid job offer in a TEER 4 role, Canadian work experience, and a minimum CLB 4 in language proficiency.
  • This is an employer-driven stream, meaning your employer must submit a request and receive authorization from the Office of Immigration.
  • Your application process involves applying to PEI first, and then to the federal government.

What is the PEI Intermediate Experience Stream Pathway?

The PEI Intermediate Experience Stream is part of PEI’s Workforce Category, created to meet growing labor demands.

It is designed to connect qualified international talent to intermediate-skilled positions in PEI. With authorization from the Office of Immigration, PEI employers can use this program to recruit talent from outside PEI and Canada. Qualified applicants receive a Work Permit Support Letter, allowing them to apply for a work permit to live and work in PEI.

You can see the PEI government’s page for the intermediate experience stream.

Applicant Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the PEI Intermediate Experience Stream, you must:

  • Hold a full-time, non-seasonal job offer from a PEI employer in an intermediate-skilled TEER 4 occupation.
  • Have a minimum of six months of full-time Canadian work experience, gained through an LMIA-based work permit, relevant to the PEI job offer.
  • Be between 18 and 59 years old.
  • Possess legal status in their country of residence.
  • Have completed a minimum of a high school diploma.
  • A minimum of two years of recent full-time work experience or education relevant to the position.
  • Provide a valid language test with a minimum CLB/NCLC score of 4, taken within the last two years.
  • Show sufficient funds to cover immigration and travel costs for themselves and their family.
  • Express a genuine intention to settle in PEI.

PEI PNP EOI Points Grid

Prince Edward Island uses an Expression of Interest Points Grid to determine which applicants receive an invitation to submit a workforce application.

Based on your score, you may receive an invitation to apply when PEI conducts one of its EOI draws for the Labour Impact category (of which the PEI PNP Critical Worker stream is a part). You can keep an eye on draws with our PNP Live Tracker.

Application Process

  1. Expression of Interest (EOI): You must create a profile in the PEI EOI system, providing a valid email address and personal identification, including passport details.
  2. Complete Your Profile: Once verified, you can complete your profile, which will remain active for six months. Update your profile if your circumstances change.
  3. Invitation to Apply: If selected, you will receive an invitation to apply with a file number and application instructions.
  4. Workforce Application Submission: Submit the required forms, including employer forms, along with a $300 CAD non-refundable fee.
  5. Work Permit Support Letter: If approved, you will receive a Work Permit Support Letter, allowing you to apply for a work permit without needing an LMIA.
  6. Apply for Permanent Residency: Once you receive your nomination, you can apply to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) for permanent residency.
