What are New Brunswick PNP Draws?
A New Brunswick PNP draw is an official selection round conducted by the New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP), where the province invites eligible candidates from its Expression of Interest (EOI) pool to apply for provincial nomination.
These draws are similar in concept to federal Express Entry draws, but they operate independently under New Brunswick’s own economic priorities and labour market needs. They are part of Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), designed to help provinces select immigrants who can contribute to their local economy and communities. The NBPNP is managed by Immigration New Brunswick (ImmigrationNB) in collaboration with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
How do New Brunswick Draws Work?
New Brunswick PNP draws are periodic selection rounds where the province invites candidates from its EOI pool to apply for a provincial nomination. Interested candidates must first create an online profile and submit an Expression of Interest, which is then ranked based on factors such as education, work experience, language ability, and connections to New Brunswick.
New Brunswick selects candidates who demonstrate strong potential to settle successfully in the province and meet its labour market demands. Those selected receive an invitation to apply, which allows them to submit a full application to the NBPNP.
If approved, candidates receive a provincial nomination. This nomination can then be used to apply for permanent residence with the federal government, where IRCC makes the final decision. Candidates aligned with the Express Entry system may also benefit from a significant boost to their federal ranking score.
Which are the Streams of New Brunswick PNP Draws?
New Brunswick PNP draws are conducted across several immigration streams, each targeting different types of candidates:
- New Brunswick Skilled Worker Stream: For foreign nationals who are currently employed or have a job offer for a full-time, non-seasonal position with an eligible New Brunswick employer. This stream addresses labour shortages in roles that employers have been unable to fill with Canadian citizens or permanent residents already in the province. It includes sub-categories for candidates with New Brunswick work experience, recent graduates of New Brunswick institutions, and workers in provincial priority occupations.
- New Brunswick Express Entry Stream: For highly skilled foreign nationals already in the federal Express Entry pool who are looking to make New Brunswick their permanent home. Candidates must demonstrate a connection to the province, either through current employment with a New Brunswick employer or by having received a letter of interest in their federal Express Entry profile.
- New Brunswick Strategic Initiative: For French-speaking foreign nationals with eligible connections to New Brunswick. This stream targets Francophone workers employed in the province, graduates of French-language institutions such as the Université de Moncton or Collège communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick (CCNB), and Francophones working remotely in New Brunswick for a Canadian employer located outside of Quebec.
- New Brunswick Business Immigration Stream: For experienced entrepreneurs who are ready to establish, operate, and actively manage a business while settling permanently in New Brunswick. Candidates must meet minimum eligibility requirements — including age, language, education, net worth, and business experience — and submit an Expression of Interest before receiving an invitation to apply.

How often are New Brunswick PNP draws held?
New Brunswick does not follow a fixed schedule for its PNP draws. The frequency and timing of draws vary depending on factors such as the province’s current labour market needs, the volume of candidates in the EOI pool, and the annual nomination allocations distributed by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
Draws may be held across one or multiple streams at a time, and the minimum score required to receive an invitation to apply can shift between rounds based on the strength of the candidate pool and New Brunswick’s economic priorities at the time.
