Our Analysis of This Month’s Express Entry Draws
This marks the first Express Entry draw for August 2024, after a record-breaking number of draws in July 2024.
Today’s PNP draw continued IRCC’s consistent draw schedule of PNP draws every two weeks on Tuesdays that we’ve seen since mid-June. The consistency is likely still very welcome for Express Entry candidates who remember the inconsistent draw schedule through May and June.
The CRS did increase slightly this draw, however. And we saw a relatively small number of invitations sent out this round (763), compared to previous PNP rounds this year, but more on that below.
With today’s PNP draw completed, we’re interested to see what happens for the rest of this week. We would hope to see another CEC round and likely a category-based draw. At this point, we would predict a STEM, healthcare, or French draw is most likely.
We recently predicted in our webinar that IRCC would likely continue the PNP/CEC every two weeks trend for the coming months. We also suggested that CEC candidates should aim for scores above 500, since we aren’t sure the CRS will drop much lower for this program.
In addition to leading the board for the number of draws, July 2024 saw the most invitations issued for any month in 2024.
Here are the monthly totals so far:
January: 3,280
February 16,110
March: 7,305
April: 9,275
May: 5,985
June: 1,499
July: 25,125
August: 763 (after one draw)
While the high numbers of invitations in July is generally good news for Express Entry candidates, this could result in extended processing delays for applicants who received an ITA.

Comparisons to Previous Draws
Total Invitations:
Today’s draw invited 763 candidates. This is a decrease from the previous PNP draw on July 30, 2024, which invited 964 candidates. It’s also lower than the July 16, 2024 PNP draw, which saw 1,391 invitations issued.
Cut-off CRS Score:
- The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score cut-off for today was 690, slightly higher than the July 30 draw’s 686.
- However, it remains notably higher than the PNP CRS cut-off of 670 on July 16, 2024.
Trends Over Recent Draws:
- There’s been a downward trend in the number of invitations over the last three draws (1,391 → 964 → 763).
- Despite fewer invitations, the CRS score cut-off has shown stability around the high 600s to low 700s.
Comparisons with Historical Data:
- The CRS cut-off of 690 today is comparable to the draw on May 10, 2023 (691) but significantly lower than some draws in 2022 where scores were regularly above 750.
- The number of invitations in today’s draw (763) is within the typical range seen throughout 2023 and 2024, indicating a consistent trend, albeit lower than the largest draw in this period, which was 2,985 on May 30, 2024.
-
Long-Term Trends:
- Looking further back, the CRS scores have generally decreased from the earlier period (2020-2022), where scores frequently exceeded 750.
- The recent draws, including today’s, reflect a trend towards lower CRS scores and a reduction in the number of invitations as compared to the mid-2020s.
