Our Analysis of This Week’s Express Entry Draw
This is the first Express Entry draw for July 2024, and just the fourth draw since April 24, 2024 when Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada moved away from its general draw every other Tuesday trend.
This draw is relatively small, considering how few draws we have seen in the past two months. The CRS cut-off is relatively high, at 739.
From May 1, 2024, we have seen 4 draws, including two in May and just one in June. Of those 4 draws, 3 were Provincial Nominee Program rounds and one was a Canadian Experience Class round.
Encouragingly, this draw took place on a Tuesday less than two weeks from the previous round, which was a PNP draw on Wednesday June 19. We hope this signals a move back to a regular schedule, with draws taking place every second Tuesday. However, it is too early to determine if this trend will re-emerge in 2024.
We are also anxious to see whether this draw is followed by a Canadian Experience Class (or another) draw tomorrow, on Wednesday July 3.
For those of you awaiting a general Express Entry draw, remember that a provincial nomination comes with 600 additional points. Remember that the result in this PNP round is not a sign that General Express Entry draws will have scores above 600 in the future.
Comparison To Previous Rounds
This round took place less than two weeks after the previous Provincial Nominee Program round on June 19. It is smaller, with just 920 invitations issued.
The last time we saw a PNP round smaller than this was in March 2022. At that time, IRCC issued 919 invitations with a CRS of 785. What we can draw from this is that the PNP pool of candidates is currently less competitive than it was in 2022. For candidates who may be eligible for nomination via a PNP, receiving that nomination could be the best path forward in 2024 (assuming IRCC continues to conduct PNP rounds in the future, this policy could change at any moment).
