Ontario led provincial immigration efforts this month, issuing 4,379 invitations, the highest among all provinces. Yukon joined the list of provinces/ territories offering open work permits and Alberta introduced a new Expression of Interest system. We also saw draws targeting Express Entry applicants with a CRS score as low as 290. Read on to find all the details.

Invitations by Province in September 2024:

  • Alberta: No invitations
  • BC: Up to 632
  • Manitoba: 554
  • New Brunswick: No invitations (paused)
  • Ontario: 4,379
  • PEI: 48
  • Quebec: 1,417
  • Saskatchewan: 89

Key Trends in September

  1. Targeted Draws: Many provinces focused on specific sectors, particularly healthcare, childcare, construction, tech, and veterinary care.
  2. Province with the Biggest Draw: Ontario had the biggest draw, inviting 1,443 applicants who qualify for the Masters or PhD stream.
  3. Province that Completed the Most Draws: British Columbia (BC) and Ontario completed the most draws, with 4 draws each in September.
  4. Province that Sent the Most Invitations: Ontario sent the most invitations in September, with a total of 6,574 invitations.
  5. Most notable draws: Ontario conducted 2 draws targeting French-Speaking Skilled Worker from the Express Entry pool with a CRS cut-off as low as 290.

Alberta Announced a New Expression Of Interest Application Process for Worker Streams.

As of September 30th, 2024, applicants under four popular worker streams need to submit a Worker Expression of Interest to be considered for the stream.

Temporary Measures Passed to Award Open Work Permits to Some Yukon Workers.

Under the new public policy allowing select Provincial and Territorial Nominee Program applicants to obtain open work permits, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada has worked with the Yukon Government to identify 215 temporary workers who are eligible for an open work permit.

Participating provinces/ territories are Alberta, Manitoba and Yukon. You can read more about this here.
