Our Analysis of This Week’s Express Entry Draw

IRCC has continued its trend of holding draws every 2 weeks, although it looks like we should possibly expect Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draws on Mondays rather than Tuesdays. Today’s draw was the second Monday draw in a row, with both draws being PNP draws. 

We also seem to be seeing an early draw of around 700-950 PNP invitations, and a later draw with 1100+ invitations each month for PNP. Take a look:

June 2024:

• June 19, 2024: 1,499 invitations (later)

July 2024:

• July 2, 2024: 920 invitations (early)
• July 16, 2024: 1,391 invitations (later)
• July 30, 2024: 964 invitations (bonus)

August 2024:

• August 13, 2024: 763 invitations (early)
• August 26, 2024: 1,121 invitations (later)

September 2024:

• September 9, 2024: 911 invitations (early).

So, we might expect to see a larger PNP draw later in September.

As you’d expect with a smaller draw, today’s CRS jumped from the last PNP draw in August. Today’s score of 732 is the highest CRS cut off since July 2, 2024 — where we saw a 739 cut off.

With today’s PNP draw completed, we are still expecting a Canadian Experience Class draw and a category-based draw this week. At this point, we would predict a STEM, transport, or possibly French draw is most likely.

So What Should You Do if You Are Waiting for an ITA as an FSW?

Things are looking a little bleak for FSW applicants, but that is not to say that you are out of options. 

FSW applicants are still being accepted under category-based draws, and those who qualify for these draws often enjoy a lower CRS cut-off. Category-based draws require the applicant to have certain work experience or French language proficiency. 

For those with eligible work experience, increasing your CRS score wherever possible should be your goal. We offer a great resource on the steps you should take to increase your CRS.  It is also important to remember that the work experience being targeted in category-based draws is set to change in 2025, with jobs in education and natural resources being added. 

For those with work experience not currently being targeted, learning French may be your best bet. In 2023, 92% of French-proficiency category-based draws went to FSW applicants. With a commitment to increase the number of French-speaking immigrants to 8% of all immigrants by 2026, learning French now could be your best bet to get an ITA as an FSW applicant.
