We saw a significant number of PNP invitations sent out in July, making the seventh month of 2024 one for the books. The PNP rounds activities were the cherry on top for those looking to make Canada home, permanently, since we also saw a record number of Express Entry draws during the month.

Key Stats From July’s PNP Results

Invitations by Province in July 2024:

  • Alberta: 37
  • BC: 484
  • Ontario: 5,925
  • Manitoba: 490
  • Quebec: 1,560
  • PEI: 86

High Levels of Healthcare Targeting

Healthcare occupations are clearly being targeted across Canada at the moment. We saw healthcare professions receiving targeted invitations in Ontario, BC, Alberta, and PEI in July.

This is good news for anyone in Canada who has experience in healthcare or is currently studying in the healthcare field, since there are many PNP options for you.

Provincial Nominee Program Updates: July 2024

Alberta’s Changes For Applicants Affected By Wildfires

Alberta’s wildfire season has been devastating this year, with the iconic tourist destination Jasper experiencing a horrific wildfire that destroyed over one third of the town. (Learn more about special measures for wildfires in Canada.)

In response, the AAIP eligibility has been adjusted slightly for those whose applications are based on a job offer or residence in an Albertan community that has been evacuated. The measures mean that applications will be held for up to one year from the community evacuation date. So applicants who meet this criteria will have one year to demonstrate that they meet AAIP criteria again by, for example, finding a new job in an eligible occupation if they have become unemployed due to the wildfire.

More information available from the AAIP.

Ontario Updates For Nurses and In-Demand Occupations

Ontario has introduced changes for nurses that will help them to apply to two OINP streams. The province also announced major additions to the Employer Job Offer: In-Demand list of eligible occupations, with trades and industry workers to benefit from 34 newly-added eligible jobs.

Processing Times To Increase For BC’s PNP

Processing times have increased for BC’s 5 Skills Immigration PNP streams:

  • BC’s Skilled Worker Stream
  • Health Authority Stream.
  • Entry-Level and Semi-Skilled Stream.
  • International Graduate.
  • International Post-Graduate Stream.

BC has not published updated processing times showing the delay, but applicants should expect to wait longer than 3 months for their applications to be processed.

BC expects to return to processing 80% of applications received under the Skills Immigration pathway in early 2025.

Northwest Territories Reaches PNP Allocation For The First Time

Canada’s Northwest Territories (NWT) has reached its PNP allocation limit of 300 in 2024. This is an incredible milestone, especially considering we are only in July, since NWT has not previously reached its allocation limit in any year.

The NWT will not be accepting new applications for the remainder of 2024 – other than applications from PNP-eligible foreign workers on a temporary work permit expiring in 2024 and who have worked in the NWT this year.

Learn what to do if the Northwest Territories PNP allocation being exhausted impacts you.
