That’s nearly double August’s invitations (≈692) and a lower average cut-off (August average ~56.0). What These AAIP Draws Tell Us
- Sector focus remains strong. Much of the recent activity continues to target sectors where Alberta has significant labour demand: Health Care, Construction, Agriculture, and Aviation.
- Express Entry + Priority draws vary in score thresholds. For example, Health Care required a higher score (64) on Sept 9, whereas Agriculture was lower (48) on Sept 5. Construction sector draws are bringing in large numbers (121 invites) with a mid-score (61).
- Alberta Opportunity Stream moves big volumes. On September 4, Alberta issued 891 invitations under the Opportunity Stream with a score cut-off of 56. This shows that for candidates already working or residing in Alberta (in eligible occupations), this stream remains a strong pathway.
- Dedicated Health Care Pathway is dual: Express Entry & non-Express Entry. Health care draws are happening under both streams. Non-Express Entry had a minimum score of 44 for 67 invites (Sept 3), while the Express Entry version required 49 for 126 invites (Sept 2).
Key Takeaways for Candidates in the Pool
- Check if your occupation is in Alberta’s priority sectors. If you work (or have a job offer) in aviation, agriculture, health care, or construction, you may be favoured in upcoming draws. Make sure your EOI (Expression of Interest) lists your correct primary occupation.
- Dedicated Health Care Pathway is still a pillar. Health care has its own pathways (Express Entry and non-Express), meaning even if you are not in Express Entry, there’s still a possible route. Employers in health care, and candidates with recent health-sector experience, should watch those draws closely.
- Be ready and keep profiles/current details accurate. Since AAIP draws are done as needed (not strictly scheduled), having your EOI up, maintaining valid status and ensuring job offers (if required) match sector eligibility will give you the best chance when your area is drawn.
