Now, you may think we’re crazy talking about 2026 when the 2025 IEC season is still going strong. But here’s the reality, if you want to stay in Canada through a recognized organization, you need to start planning, right now. These spots go fast, demand keeps growing, and the people who wait until the last minute almost always miss out.

If you’ve already been in Canada on an IEC work permit for a year or two and you’re not eligible to participate again through your home country, then a recognized organization might be your only way to stay longer.

That’s why planning ahead with a recognized organization could be the smartest move you make for 2026.

What Are IEC-Recognized Organizations?

IEC-recognized organizations are private organizations approved by the Canadian government to help people get work permits under the International Experience Canada program.

Here’s how they work:

  • They have their own pools of spots separate from IEC country pools.
  • Spaces are very limited, and they are in high demand. In fact, many organizations open waitlists well before the official IEC season begins, and these waitlists often fill up quickly, sometimes within days.
  • They set their own prices, sometimes thousands of dollars, so it’s important to compare.

One popular example is Stepwest, which opened its 2026 waitlist on Friday, September 12, 2025. By 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 16, the waitlist was already closed:

What You Can Do Now to Secure a Recognized Organization Spot for 2026

Even though we’re still in the 2025 IEC season, anyone hoping to use an IEC-recognized organization for 2026 needs to prepare early:

  1. Make a list of organizations – Start researching now and make a list of all applicable IEC-recognized organizations.
  2. Check prices and timelines – Costs can vary widely, and so can the opening dates for waitlists and applications.
  3. Sign up for mailing lists – Organizations often announce their opening dates by email first.
  4. Approve the Recognized Organization in your email folder – Make sure their emails don’t land in your junk or promotions folder. If you miss the announcement by even a day, you could be too late.

Why Are Recognized Organizations So Popular?

Recognized organizations have exploded in popularity because, right now, almost every other pathway to stay in Canada is overcrowded and extremely competitive. For many people already in the country, the options feel like they’re disappearing fast:

  • Employer-supported work permits are hard to come by. Many employers are simply put off by the process, delay and expense of an Employer-supported work permit.
  • Express Entry candidates in the Canadian Experience Class are stuck waiting as CRS cut-offs climb to astronomical levels, making it harder than ever to receive an invitation.
  • Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) have had their quotas slashed for 2025, leaving many people who would have qualified for a PNP with no pathway through this route either.

With so many doors closing, it’s no surprise that recognized organizations have become the go-to option for those desperate to stay in Canada. People are willing to spend thousands of dollars for a chance to secure a spot because, for many, it feels like the only viable path left.

If you’re in Canada now and want to stay longer, IEC-recognized organizations could be your ticket. Start researching them today, get on their mailing lists, and be ready to apply fast. The earlier you prepare, the better your chances of securing a spot before they sell out.
