Our Analysis of This Week’s Express Entry Draw
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is on an invitation spree in July after two very slow months in May and June. Today’s French draw marks the second French draw this month and the third overall draw this week.
In fact, there have been 9,491 invitations issued this week and 19,161 this month. This means July has already seen the most invitations issued for any month in 2024 — and we potentially have more draws coming later this month, if IRCC sticks to its biweekly schedule. (After months of inconsistent draws, it is unclear if it will.)
Here are the monthly totals so far:
January: 3,280
February 16,110
March: 7,305
April: 9,275
May: 5,985
June: 1,499
July: 19,161.

French draws have emerged as the leader in terms of category-based draws, both in the number of rounds and the number of invitations issued. There have been six French language proficiency draws so far this year, compared to two healthcare draws, and one for each of the other categories (Agriculture, trades, transport, and STEM).
To recap, we have had the following draws so far in July 2024:
- Today’s French draw inviting 1,800 candidates.
- Canadian Experience Class draw on July 17, inviting 6,300.
- A Provincial Nominee Program draw on July 16, inviting 1,391 candidates.
- A French draw, inviting 3,200 candidates on July 8.
- A healthcare draw, inviting 3,750 candidates on July 5.
- A trades occupations draw, inviting 1,800 candidates on July 4.
- A Provincial Nominee Program draw, inviting 920 candidates on July 2.

Comparisons to Previous French Draws
Since this is the second French draw this month, the CRS is surprising. On July 8, we saw 3,200 French speakers with a score of 420 or higher invited to apply. Just two weeks later, this round invited 1,800 with a CRS of 400 or higher.
This suggests there is a relatively large pool of French speakers to draw from at the moment.
It’s also worth noting that we have seen 17,400 invitations for French speakers. This means around 28% of invitations overall have been sent out in French language draws. This reflects IRCC’s goal of issuing around 30% of ITAs via this category in 2024.
