Our Analysis of this Express Entry Draw
IRCC has issued 2,500 invitations to apply (ITAs) in today’s Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draw, with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 519, an increase of one point from the previous CEC draw two weeks prior.
Today’s draw size of 2,500 ITAs is slightly above what we saw in September when all three CEC draws were 2,000 ITAs. However, 2,500 invitations is lower than what we’ve seen for many CEC draws in 2026, particularly earlier in the year:
As shown in this graph, CEC draws earlier in the year issued 4,000 to 8,000 ITAs in each draw. The CRS score cut-off for these draws was, understandably, lower, pushing the CRS score cut-off to its lowest point in 2026.
Although 2,500 ITAs per draw is still substantial, it now seems to be just enough to maintain the CRS score just below 520 points.
The latest Express Entry pool update (as of October 12) shows 21,638 candidates with a CRS score between 501 and 600. This is a notable increase from the end of August when there were 19,542 candidates in the same range. And, it’s significantly higher than in July, when on July 19 there were 18,133 candidates in this range.
This suggests that there may be a higher rate of competitive candidates entering the pool than of those being drawn from the pool which would explain the stubbornly high CRS score cut-off that seems to refuse to bend downward.
It’s not only been a huge year for Express Entry overall, but also a huge year for CEC. As of today’s draw, CEC candidates have received a total of 57,750 invitations this year. That’s about 42 percent of all ITAs issued in 2026, a notable proportion, especially considering the overall number of ITAs. Though, it’s worth noting that in August, French-draws briefly surpassed CEC draws to issue the highest number of ITAs in a single program or category throughout 2026.
What Does This Mean for CEC Candidates?
If your CRS score is close to or above the recent 2026 cut-off range of 516 to 523, you have good reason to feel optimistic. Although CEC draw frequency and size have recently been slowing down (and may slow further), Canada is committed to welcoming high numbers of skilled worker immigrants with a priority for those with Canadian work experience.
If your score is below the recent cut-offs, you may still have options. First, there could be ways to improve your CRS score. Many candidates increase their score by retaking a language test, adding second-language results, or gaining more skilled work experience.
Our in-house consultant, Rebecca, has written several guides on what she tells clients who are stuck in the Express Entry pool. Check out her excellent guide on what she recommends to her clients who have CRS scores around 500 points. And her recent article on whether you should learn French for Express Entry. It’s a great starting place to better understand your options.
You should also explore Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). A provincial nomination adds 600 additional CRS points, which almost guarantees an ITA through Express Entry.
If you have an accompanying spouse or common-law partner, their profile may also help improve your score. Language test results, education, and Canadian work experience from your partner can all contribute additional CRS points.
If you’re unable to get your CRS score in the competitive range and you don’t qualify for a category-based draw, you may also want to consider immigration alternatives to Express Entry.

What’s Next for CEC?
It’s hard to predict with certainty, though it does appear that CEC draws have slowed, at least in draw size, compared to the beginning of the year.
Based on the record-high number of ITAs issued in 2026 so far, it wouldn’t be surprising if smaller draw sizes continue for the rest of 2026. Another factor to consider is that IRCC has announced plans to overhaul the Express Entry system in the near future, replacing CEC, FSW, and FST with a single federal high-skilled immigration program.
Although an exact timeline hasn’t yet been released, it’s possible that the implementation of these overhauls could results in a disruption to regular Express Entry draws.
From an eligibility perspective, based on what we know about the reforms, skilled workers with Canadian work experience will still be competitive under the new program. However, we won’t know for sure until more details are released.
The Moving2Canada team is closely monitoring the proposed reforms and will publish any new information as soon as it becomes available.
A recent report suggested that CEC refusal rates have risen to more than 15 percent (up from just four percent two years ago), which may warrant more ITAs being issued on an annual basis. However, this also suggests that candidates need to be diligent when preparing applications for permanent residence to ensure that they’re not refused for missing information or insufficient documentation.
