IEC

If you’ve already been in Canada on an IEC work permit for a year or two and you’re not eligible to participate again through your home country, then a recognized organization might be your only way to stay longer.
That’s why planning ahead with a recognized organization could be the smartest move you make for 2026.
IEC-recognized organizations are private organizations approved by the Canadian government to help people get work permits under the International Experience Canada program.
Here’s how they work:
One popular example is Stepwest, which opened its 2026 waitlist on Friday, September 12, 2025. By 9 a.m. on Tuesday, September 16, the waitlist was already closed:
You can find a list of recognized organizations here.
Even though we’re still in the 2025 IEC season, anyone hoping to use an IEC-recognized organization for 2026 needs to prepare early:
Recognized organizations have exploded in popularity because, right now, almost every other pathway to stay in Canada is overcrowded and extremely competitive. For many people already in the country, the options feel like they’re disappearing fast:
With so many doors closing, it’s no surprise that recognized organizations have become the go-to option for those desperate to stay in Canada. People are willing to spend thousands of dollars for a chance to secure a spot because, for many, it feels like the only viable path left.
If you’re in Canada now and want to stay longer, IEC-recognized organizations could be your ticket. Start researching them today, get on their mailing lists, and be ready to apply fast. The earlier you prepare, the better your chances of securing a spot before they sell out.
