Our Analysis of this Express Entry Draw

IRCC has issued 2,000 invitations to apply (ITAs) in today’s Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draw, with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 516.

Throughout 2026, all CEC draws have had CRS score cut-offs between 507 and 518 points – an 11-point range. The CRS cut-off for today’s draw remained within that range, suggesting that the number of competitive CEC candidates entering the pool is in equilibrium with the number of candidates being invited.

The latest Express Entry pool update (as of July 19) shows 18,133 candidates with a CRS score between 501 and 600. This is almost unchanged from the 18,611 candidates in the same range during the previous update on July 5.

It’s been a huge year for CEC invitations so far, with IRCC issuing more than 41,000 CEC ITAs in the first six months of 2026. And things haven’t slowed down yet. Today’s July 22 CEC draw marks the second CEC draw of the month, highlighting IRCC’s commitment to prioritizing CEC draws above all others.

So far in 2026, there have been a total of 45,250 CEC invitations issued.

IRCC is fewer than 400 invitations away from surpassing 100,000 ITAs issued in 2026 (this includes all draw types and categories). The annual record for ITAs issued in a single year is just under 115,000. If IRCC were to maintain the same pace of invitations as in the first half of the year, the department would likely overshoot its immigration targets by a substantial number.

For this reason, it’s likely that Express Entry draws will slow down at some point in the months ahead. We’re not sure exactly when the slowdown will start or how long it will last, but Express Entry hopefuls should prepare for a slower second half.

What Does This Mean for CEC Candidates?

If your CRS score is close to or above the recent cut-off range of 507 to 518, you have good reason to feel optimistic. Although CEC draw frequency and size have recently been slowing down (and may slow further), Canada is committed to welcoming high numbers of skilled worker immigrants with a priority for those with Canadian work experience.

Remember, more than 45 percent of all ITAs issued in 2026 have been to CEC candidates.

If your score is below the recent cut-offs, don’t panic. There could be ways to improve your CRS score. Many candidates increase their score by retaking a language test, adding second-language results, or gaining more skilled work experience.

You should also explore Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs). A provincial nomination adds 600 additional CRS points, which almost guarantees an ITA through Express Entry.

If you have an accompanying spouse or common-law partner, their profile may also help improve your score. Language test results, education, and Canadian work experience from your partner can all contribute additional CRS points.

What’s Next for CEC?

It’s hard to predict with certainty. Since April, CEC draw sizes have been smaller and less frequent than they were at the beginning of the year. However, there are still thousands of invitations being issued every month. The relatively consistent CRS score cut-off range (507-518 points) allows CEC candidates to get a sense of their competitiveness.

Again, simply due to the extraordinarily high number of ITAs issued in the first half of 2026, we’re predicting Express Entry draws will slow down in the second half of the year. However, we’re not where when this slowdown will happen or how dramatic it will be.

If you’re getting ready to enter the Express Entry pool, keep in mind that IRCC recently announced plans for a massive overhaul of the Express Entry system. If it goes through, this overhaul will replace CEC, FSW, and FST with a single federal high skilled immigration program.

It’s possible that during the implementation of this overhaul, Express Entry draws will be paused so the system can be updated.

From an eligibility perspective, based on what we know about the reforms, skilled workers with Canadian work experience will still be competitive under the new program. However, we won’t know for sure until more details are released.
