Our Analysis of this Express Entry Draw
IRCC has issued 2,000 invitations to apply (ITAs) in today’s Canadian Experience Class (CEC) draw. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required in this Express Entry draw was 517 points.
The 517-point cut-off keeps today’s draw within the 507 to 518-point range that has defined all CEC draws in 2026. That said, scores have been inching upward since May. This is likely due a combination of factors, including increased competition in the 501-600 score range of the pool, as well as a slowdown of invitations as we head into the second half of the year.
The most recent Express Entry pool update (as of July 5, 2026) shows 18,611 candidates with a CRS score between 501 and 600. This is down from 20,012 on June 21.
This is the eleventh CEC draw of 2026, bringing the total number of CEC invitations issued this year to 43,250. By mid-July last year, IRCC had issued only 18,850 CEC ITAs — roughly 43 percent compared to this year.
The pace of CEC draws has moderated since the opening months of 2026, when IRCC issued 8,000 ITAs in a single January round. However, IRCC is still well placed to meet its admissions target for 2026.
Canada’s 2026 federal high-skilled admissions target is 109,000 — covering not just CEC but other skilled pathways including category-based selection. There are currently 60,900 CEC applications waiting to be processed, with an average processing time of around seven months. This means that candidates receiving an ITA today will likely receive permanent residence in early 2027.
What Does This Mean for CEC Candidates?
The 507 to 518-point range has now held across eleven consecutive CEC draws in 2026. This gives you a realistic benchmark for where you need to be to secure an ITA. The number of candidates in the 501+ range continues to remain high, so IRCC can continue inviting qualified candidates without lowering cut-offs at present.
If you are below that range, there are concrete steps worth considering before your next profile update. Retaking a language test, improving scores in a second official language, or logging additional skilled work experience are among the more reliable ways to add points. The CRS score improvement guide covers the options in detail.
Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) are also worth looking into. A provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points, which effectively guarantees an ITA through Express Entry. Eligibility and requirements vary significantly across programs and provinces, so review options that match your work experience and location.
If your spouse or common-law partner is included in your Express Entry profile, their language scores, education credentials, and Canadian work experience can all contribute additional points to your total. Make sure their profile information is as strong as it can be.
What’s Next for CEC?
Applications submitted in the second half of the year will likely count toward Canada’s 2027 admissions targets rather than 2026, thanks to the six to seven month processing time. This might mean slower draw activity for the remainder of the year. For instance, between August and November 2025, IRCC held six CEC draws, issuing just 1,000 ITAs in each round. Then in December, two CEC draws issued 11,000 ITAs combined. It remains to be seen whether 2026 will follow a similar pattern, but it is worth keeping in mind if you are watching the draws closely over the coming months.
Another crucial thing for CEC candidates to watch remains the proposed overhaul of the Express Entry system. If it goes ahead, the Canadian Experience Class (and the two other Express Entry programs) would be replaced by a single federal high-skilled program. While IRCC has not yet confirmed a timeline for this, it is unlikely to happen before early 2027.
If IRCC’s proposal is implemented, it would set CLB/NCLC 6 as the minimum language threshold for Express Entry. CEC candidates in TEER 2 or 3 occupations currently only need CLB/NCLC 5. This means that some people who qualify to enter the pool today may need to improve their language scores to remain eligible.
