Our Analysis of this Express Entry Draw
Today’s draw is the second Physicians draw of 2026. IRCC invited 271 candidates with qualifying Canadian experience to apply for permanent residence, with a minimum CRS score of 223.
The first physicians draw was held on February 19, more than four months ago, when IRCC issued 391 invitations at a minimum CRS of 169.
Today’s draw was smaller but with a higher cut-off. Volume dropped by 120 ITAs compared to February, while the cut-off climbed 54 points. The small draw size is not surprising, given that the low cut-off last time likely emptied the pool of eligible candidates, regardless of scores.
New candidates who have since met the one-year work experience requirement are entering the pool at higher CRS scores. That said, even at 223, the cut-off remains extremely low, signalling that IRCC has continued to invite nearly all eligible physicians with one year of Canadian experience.
The June 24 draw brings the number of Physicians with Canadian experience invited so far this year to 662.
What Does This Mean for Physicians Express Entry Draws?
This Physician category is still very new. With only two draws now on record, held four months apart, there isn’t yet enough data to identify any reliable ITA or cut-off patterns.
What is clear is that the pool continues to grow. Physicians who have been working in Canada since the category launched are reaching their one-year eligibility milestone on a rolling basis. As more candidates qualify and enter the pool, it will become easier to assess how frequently IRCC plans to hold these draws and at what volume.
It is also possible that some eligible physicians may qualify under healthcare and social services category draws. However, there has only been one healthcare draw so far this year, and there is no clarity on if or when another one will happen.
What This Means for You
If you received an ITA today, you have 60 days to submit a complete application for permanent residence.
If you’re a physician in the Express Entry pool but are not yet eligible for an ITA, keep working towards the one-year work experience threshold. Once you meet the Canadian experience requirement, your profile will be considered automatically in future physicians draws.
Today’s cut-off is still low by Express Entry standards, which means a significant portion of eligible physicians were invited in today’s draw. If your score is below 223, you may want to consider ways to increase it.
One option worth exploring is Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP). Several provinces have dedicated streams for physicians, and IRCC has reserved up to 5,000 federal immigration spaces for provinces to nominate medical doctors with job offers or letters of support. A provincial nomination adds 600 points to your CRS score, making an invitation through the general or PNP stream virtually certain.
If you’re a physician without Canadian experience, you may qualify under the healthcare and social services category. While waiting for a draw, you could also look into other potential ways to boost your score, including learning the second official language, improving your language test results, or gaining more work experience or education.
