Why does IRCC increase the fees?
IRCC says it raises fees to cover higher program costs and adjusts them for inflation under the Service Fees Act.
IRCC raises the Right of Permanent Resident Fee every two years. The last increase was April 30, 2024. This year’s rise is smaller than the 2024 increase.
How does this impact you?
If IRCC has already received your application and you have already paid the Right of Permanent Residence fee, you will not be asked to pay a difference.
If you haven’t paid by April 30, you must pay the new fee, even if you applied with the old processing fee.
You must pay your RPRF to get permanent resident status in Canada. Once you pay your fee, send a copy of your receipt via web form so IRCC knows you have paid.
To avoid the new fee, ensure your application is complete. If you resubmit later, you’ll pay the new amount.
Right of Citizenship Form
IRCC has also very slightly increased the Right of Citizenship fee to $123, up $3.75 from the previous year. The fee for this form increases annually, but the 2026 increase is much lower than the $19.25 increase in March 2025.
The Right of Citizenship Form fee differs from the adult citizenship grant fee, which remains $530, the same as last year.
Like the Right of Permanent Residence Fee, you can’t officially become a Canadian citizen without paying the Citizenship fee.
