Canada has been ranked in second place in a new study that compares the global performance of 60 countries in a variety of areas.
Research published this week claims Canada is economically stable, has a good job market, and has well-developed public education and health systems.
The Best Countries project was a collaboration between the World Economic Forum, U.S. News, and the University of Pennsylvania.
The report also commended Canada’s ‘citizenship’ qualities, scoring Canada highly for its respect for property rights, gender equality, religious freedom, record on human rights, progressive nature, and environmental concern.
In the ‘quality of life’ category, Canada ranked as first in the world, thanks to its safety, political and economic stability, and good public services.
Canada scored less well in other areas, however. When its affordability was assessed, Canada received a score of just 1.3 out of 10.
When ranking countries on how adventurous they are, the report considered the “ineffable quality we called ‘sexy'”, and gave Canada a lowly 0.2 out of 10.
Overall, the report concluded that Germany is the best country in the world.

The UK, the USA and Sweden completed the top five. New Zealand ranked 11th overall.
Ireland came 18th out of the 60 countries, scoring highly for its family-friendly nature (9.2/10), scenery (9.0/10), and gender equality (8.1/10).
Among the categories Ireland scored poorly in were its corruption (0.0/10), power (0.5/10), trendiness (1.0/10), food (1.2/10), cultural influence (2.7/10), and religious freedom (4.8/10).
