Leading infrastructure contractor is seeking a Project Director to join their Major Projects team across Canada with a focus on rail projects in Vancouver BC, Toronto ON and Calgary AB. Reporting to the Vice President, the Project Director will be responsible for the operational and financial performance of major rail projects. Key Responsibilities of Project Director

  • Key member of a multidisciplinary team that develops, designs, constructs and maintains major railway schemes. Participate as a key member of a pursuit team to secure major project awards.
  • Project Director is responsible for the safe and profitable performance of signalization and rail electrification construction projects.
  • Approves all expenditures and proposal pricing within limits of authority.
  • Develop Project execution plans and schedule for the ongoing management of performance.
  • Provide technical guidance in rail operations, contract management, standards and procedures and direction in project execution and construction activities
  • Appropriately resolve all project related disputes with Clients, Partners, Subs, Public etc.
  • Reports issues to the SVP Utilities and the related project Executive regarding financial performance, workload status, potential legal issues and potential opportunities.
  • Puts in place a management team with clearly defined responsibilities covering all aspects of the operation.
  • Prepares staff development and succession plans for key positions in the group.
  • Maintains positive personal contact and relationships with major clients, partners and unions.
  • Ensures that all activity in the designated projects are consistent with corporate and divisional strategic plans, business plans, policies and procedures.

Required Knowledge and Skills of Project Director

  • Engineering degree or Technical Diploma/ or equivalent training and experience
  • A minimum of 5 years of construction experience with rail related projects
  • Knowledge and experience in all three elements of the Electrification and Plant (E&P) discipline including Overhead Line Equipment (OLE), 25kV Power Distribution and Low Voltage Electrical systems
  • Demonstrate ability to evaluate employees and deployment of field resources on projects of various size and complexity as projects demand
  • Demonstrated ability to establish effective project controls that track the productivity of projects to ensure adherence to estimates and bids
  • Project Management Expertise on complex Joint Venture or Private Public Partnership style projects
  • Highly developed communication skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with public officials, Board of Directors, subordinates, peers and the general public
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound business judgment and proven leadership for people of all levels
  • Ability to plan, review, assign and evaluate the work of subordinate managers
