Civil contractor focused on civil and buildings projects across Canada

Our client, a leading civil contractor is seeking a Project Coordinator wth 3-4 years experience to join their growing team in Vancouver.  The Project Coordinator will be key lead to ensure compliance to all project documentation needs and to ensure project process controls are in place to allow for revenue capture, complete cost control and safety compliance. An integral role in maintaining the capability of the greater Vancouver area operations organization to increase construction revenue and capability.  This includes actively participating in building a culture of agility, collaboration, and empowerment (ACE) enabling continuous improvement.

This job description pertains to the following functions in the business unit:

  • Paving
  • Milling
  • Grading
  • Curb and Gutter

Responsibilities:

Health and Safety:

  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas
  • See Something, Do Something! Ensures safe working conditions in site
  • Undertake scheduled job observations or contractor inspections in accordance with communicated schedules

Project Coordination (~80%):

The scope of coordination tasks for project will include, where appropriate, the following:

  • Create job specific safety orientations if required
  • Creating and updating schedules
  • TMPs, LCRs, Noise Variances, Notices
  • Completion of QC plan, environmental plan, safety plan and hydrant permits
  • Completing BC One Calls
  • Track and ensure all revenue is being accounted daily
  • Track and ensure all extra work is preapproved and CO are in place daily
  • Process daily field paperwork
  • Quantity take offs and site verifications
  • Creating As built drawings
  • Assist in correspondence with owner or general contractor
  • Assist in expediting invoicing and receiving progresses from owner
  • Identify any sub-contractors that are restricted (Red/Amber) in Avetta and work with Operations/Contract Admin to rectify the restriction

Business Process Coordination (~20%)

The Project Coordinator will be responsible for taking the lead in the daily activities associated with:

Fleet GPS

  • Setting up GPS
  • Monitor driver metrics and haul data, comparing estimates to actual
  • Monitoring the GPS system to enable management by exception principle

Unit Price/Quantity Verification

  • Works with customers prior to billing to ensure alignment of volumes and measures
  • Ensures accurate information is passed to JCAs for invoicing

Operational Excellence Projects

  • Works on project as defined by the Operations Manager
  • Site visits are performed on a regular basis to document the progress and quality of construction activities
  • Relationships: Interacting with project managers, superintendents, foremen, owner, engineers, general contractor, subcontractors, and other sub trades
  • Subcontractors – works with the Contract Administrator to ensure contracts are established, purchase orders created and contractor safety management compliance

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Engineering, Diploma from Technical Institute in Engineering, or
  • Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.SC) in Civil Engineering
  • Good project coordination experience
  • Great problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication and great organization skills
  • Good knowledge of Paving, Asphalt and Construction industry
  • Capable of multi-tasking and managing priorities
  • High capacity of working under pressure and stress
  • Ability to effectively present information in writing, and respond to questions from a group of managers, clients, customers and the general public
  • Ability to calculate figures, amounts, such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area circumference and volume
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
  • Computer proficient in word processing and spreadsheet applications
